The phenomenon is both a physical and chemical process. Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels are made up of a number of individual solar cells. Photons from sunlight strike the silicon surface in solar cells exciting electrons. This flow of electrons creates voltage and current between the positive (+) and negative (-) poles. This generates electricity! Only the red color in sunlight is transformed into electricity. As long as there is light falling on the silicon surface, this light is transformed into electricity—clean, safe and local electricity.
